I have been reading a chapter in the art of interactive design: A euphonious and illuminating guide to building successful software written by Chris Crawford Which is what I taken from Google scholar. The title of chapter is speaking which is mainly about People could establish a link with a computer by using the way of speaking which is an interactive manner. Computer output information to people through two ways. One is visual, the other is ordinary. However, the fineness of the computer's output will not achieve the capacity of people's perception. Speaking was originally used for the exchange and communication between humankind. The author believes that the definition of interactivity can be expressed using the inputting processing outputting, rather than listening thinking speaking.
The authors in the chapter wrote that "the problem we face in getting computers to work better is not that humans need to become more computer-like, but that computers need to behave in a more human-like manner "(19)I couldn't agree with more. One can assume that if one becomes more computer-like, the computer not only loses its own role for communication, but also not works better. Therefore, we must impose people's ideas for the design process in order to enable this design to better serve human being. Every day we spend a long time on the speaking, and the speaking have been developed into various forms, such as novels, music, dance, film, and so on.
Computer software is also an expression of a computer, at the beginning, the visual and ordinary outputs of the computer itself are deficient, but now this problem has been resolved more or less, it is through the four kinds of ways to reflect the computer's expressive ability. 1pixel count 2 color depth 3 frame rate 4 sound output.
pixel count
In this paragraph, the author explains what is pixel, and how pixels constitute graphics. In addition, the relationship between screen size and the pixel count is presented with plenty of examples. I think this is very interesting, the author convinces the reader through the examples. Firstly, the text uses only 9282 pixels, we can observe that the text appeared on the display screen are not sharply defined. In the Same way, same text requires 32308 pixels. The text showing on the display screen is completely different. It looks clearer. One can understand that pixel determines the size and clarity of the image. To sum up, more pixels means more image

I find the part about the computers expressive ability with pixels interesting. The problem with pixels vs. resolution could be solved if in the future a proper vector graphic system became available.
ReplyDeletedigital devices such as cameras and scanners produce raster graphics that are impractical to convert into vectors. But if we are talking about computer's emotions they can be expresd in vector graphics just like of 2D and 3D animations, fixing the pixel vx. resolution problem
ReplyDeleteI think that you are right, people and computers need to think the same way. I would guess that the problem lies with the people that program computers and the mass that use them. I think the people that program the computers think similar to a computer and the rest of us don't. It will be interesting to see how collaboration changes things.
